A little about Book of Mormon, but actually mainly my random thoughts.
This started as a Facebook post because ofĀ this articleĀ but it became rather long, so I thought I’d break my blogging fast and actually write a post instead.
I’ve seen Mormon mainly because I have a few friends in Mormon – both on Broadway and West End – and a few years back the musical world was my world. As someone who has never really been affected by racism, Yes! I’m lucky in that way, I looked at this show from both sides. Mocking fun at the ridiculous stereotypes that we all put onto each other, from both sides – the Mormon & the African. This world is absolutely frustrating and saddening, with the stereotypes that we have forced into our everyday life. I come from a country where we shouldn’t have the racial tensions, me by myself am 2nd/3rd generation – African (legit direct from the continentĀ – thanks daddy!!) Chinese & Indian (thanks Ma!). This article on Refinery 29Ā (a site that I enjoy with it’s sometimes very good, bad & random content – I like their horoscopes – always quite expansive)Ā brings to light a side I didn’t identify immediately and wouldn’t have due to my experience. It has made me think twice about it, and now actually quite saddened for my friends who have been in it and are in it, and dealing with racism in a very passive aggressive manner everyday. I wonder if there is an approach backstage to ensure that what happensĀ onstage, stays onstage and it’s just your job and doesn’t filter into personal lives offstage.
My viewpoint has always been – I treat you how you treat me, and our relationship is what is between you and me – I not getting involved in all of the other shiite that people create. Now this could be considered ignorant or tunnelled but in my experience, people like too much shit and like to put it on other people, so to minimise that I’ve chosen to deal with folks one on one. Yeah, there are moments that I’ve had to learn the hard way, but that was my lesson to learn and everything in a timing.
I’ve always thought that ALL lives matter – not only black. I am not belittling the obvious fuckery that is happening in the states, but with the refugee situation, we cannot ignore that #AllLivesMatter. I’ve had heated discussion about my seemingly lack of affliction byĀ racism, in certain ways it is also a strength for me, because I just treat everyone in the same way and move them out of my way if they are in it – you could be bigger and more green than me, but if you in my way, you gots to be removed – one way or another. If you and I get on and can enjoy each other’s space – then please by all means, stick around.
It’s quite sad that we have all these things, that minimise our capabilityĀ as humans. Our will to survive isĀ takes over every logical thought, our need to protect our loved ones overwhelms our weaknesses and no matter what Cancer can hinder us all.
We should stop trying to highlight our differences and say fuck it, let’s chill out. We all bleed same way and if I shoot you in the head you will dead same way as me. So why don’t we have a chat, invite each otherĀ for a coffee, learn a new recipe, enjoy each other’sĀ culture – sharing food, drink & music is always a good time. Let’s focus onĀ how to not kill this earth anymore, otherwise it won’t matter how much I hate you, if we all get swept away in a tsunami or crazy earthquake, anyone see San Andreas! I love me some Dwayne Johnson – he could go hard like the rock (see what I did there š ) on me any day!! Ā Or more importantly, the Zombie don’t discriminate, allĀ brain and guts is the same regardless of what land they were raised on, what passport it carrying or how much melanin it was covered in.
Think about it. it take a lot more energy to dislike and to hate on someone, than it does to just let be and find the best parts.
Walk Good.Ā
Bless, xoxo
